In a Mid-Century Moderne commercial area, this building – next door to our other project at 846 20th Street – expresses the streamlining style of the 1940s and 50s. Rounded corners, coloured horizontal banding or “speed whiskers” and neon were common design elements of roadside architecture in this era. Product suppliers like Castol provided retro signage. Built for a thriving vehicle maintenance business, the facility provides the owner/operators with an attractive and efficient company home. Dawson Service has been operating in the neighbourhood since the early 1940s.
