Hennessey House, 1891 —Heritage Restoration & Addition | Subdivision & New Infill House

Heritage Shield Winner
Royal City Builders Awards
2011

The historic Hennessey House (right) was restored to its original appearance. Existing wood windows and trims were repaired and the original front porch rebuilt. A discrete addition was added at the rear of the building to expand the home and provide for a contemporary lifestyle. The project included a Heritage Revitalization Agreement (HRA) with the City which created a second lot for the construction of a new house.

The new house (left) is designed to fit in with, but remain distinct from, the historic house next door. This form of development incentive is critical for ongoing heritage retention efforts in the community.  A creative on-street parking solution includes a shared driveway and the removal of the middle portion of a very large garage to create two separate garages.
